The Washington Post has an article today (December 4) about the attacks in Mumbai: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/03/AR2008120303383.html. In it Michael Chertoff notes that a testament to the Bush Administration's success in the war on terror is its ability to keep terrorist attacks off American soil. He says, "For all those who have benefited from protection, biting the hand that protects you is similar to biting the hand that feeds you." However, he acknowledges mistakes in the treatment of detainees in the war on terror. Is that the price we pay for safety?
